A darn near-bulletproof solution is to save the Word document as HTML! A
subfolder is created containing JPGs of the resized crappy Word images, and
a CLEAN, 1:1 aspect ratio PNG file of every image in that document which you
can use however you'd like.
On the side, and to be kept tucked under your cap, if your boss is handing
you screenshots embedded in Word to be used in another application, then
someone OTHER THAN YOU is initially mucking up the quality. ;)
Fortunately for you, and us all, there's save as HTML! ;)
