TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I wrote an internal time and billing application in Dbase for use on a CP/M
machine. After showing my secretary how the program worked, she insisted
that written instructions were not necessary. I wrote an trap but that
caused the screen to flash the bell to ring, (we did not have sound cards in
those days,) and a message box that said "You are @^&?*# clumsy. If you hit
a wrong key again this machine will explode." More bell ringing and the
screen cleared. It took me several days until my secretary would touch the
billing program. I guess I paid the price for my own humor.
