Kevin,

If you're looking for scholarly publications, the primary one for academia outside of STC is Technical Communications Quarterly.

For non-scholarly, a great deal depends on whether you have a special interest. I receive several publications from ACM that are quite useful to technical communications duties. I also subscribe to numerous on-line newsletters for usability, web design, user interaction, training, software and hardware troubleshooting, marketing communications, product development, and more.

I'd google on some of the areas you're especially interested in, find some good websites, and subscribe from there.

And of course, go to the Techwhirler site, it has lots of wonderful, useful articles for tech communicators of all stripes.

Can anyone recommend any really good publications/magazines/periodicals on
techcomm or related field (Communication Arts, for example)?

I'm looking for alternatives to the STC publications.

Thanks,
Kevin
