The above activities all require in-depth knowledge of the product (not
to mention proficiency in indexing), which an intern cannot be presumed
to have.
A good first task would be checking (1) that all references to figures
in the text are correct, and (2) that all figures are legible and that
they accomplish the goal for which they were created. Performing this
task requires that the intern read the documentation and become
acquainted with the product via the documentation.
Ask the intern to report to you about any confusing text, any typos, and
so forth (with appropriate notations) in a separate document of notes.
