Sure. Lots of sources and lots of situations. Words into Type, 3rd
ed., has a nice 11-page treatment of compound words. The Chicago
Manual of Style, 13th ed., scatters its treatment among half a dozen
topics. The Associated Press also has a respected style guide, but I
don't have that one.
