TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
IMO, anyone basing their career choices on this is doomed to failure
unless they're self-sufficient enough to donate their services fulltime
to some nonprofit cause. Your employers or clients hire you for your
ability to contribute to the company's efforts to create products or
services that are delivered profitably and with minimal post-sale support
costs. You can enhance your value in their eyes by demonstrating that
your professionalism, knowledge and talent help achieve that goal, but
don't hold your breath waiting to be valued or recognized for those
qualities alone.
