It's hard to say what a "software" company is, anyway. I would look for
other types of lists to target the companies you are interested in. If
you are serious about any sales or marketing you should probably
develop the list yourself.

Not sure what your intended use is, but several years back when I was
cold-calling for tech writing jobs, I developed my own list by
capturing company names and contact info from Internet job postings
(discarding the actual job descriptions). It took a few weeks of
evenings but when I was done I had a high-quality list of leads,
containing onlly companies with active IT projects. And, based on the
job description I knew something about their technology platform and
industry sector.

These kinds of targeted lists become outdated quickly though, so I
wouldn't put much credibility in any purchased lists.
