Yep. Stop right there. The answer is really pretty simple, and I don't know that it is within the STC's power to change this reality: some of us are joiners and some of us are not. I have a completely irrational hatred for the STC--irrational because I've never been to a meeting or had any correspondence with the organization--based solely on my neurotic avoidance of all membership organizations. That's not the STC's fault.

To the extent this list attracts all sorts of folks, and some of us share an antipathy toward any organization that would have us as members while others are, just as neurotically, dependent on the panache of legitimacy conferred by membership in "professional" organizations, it's hard to have a rational discussion on STC good vs STC bad.
