Having worked for a non-profit standards org, I really urge that we not
share standards. The reason that they are expensive is that they are the
only source of revenue for these critical independent organizations.
If companies are producing devices that must be compliant with the
standard, then purchasing a copy of the standard is just a cost of doing
business.
I know all the arguments pro and con, but if we want to keep standards
independent of one big vendor, then we can't be the back door to
information that may have cost the standards organization AND THE VENDORS
THAT SUPPORTED THAT EFFORT hundreds of thousands of dollars to promulgate.
The purpose of review copies is for pre-publication review. Period.
