To which I reply
I believe there was. However, there was probably an initial verbal agreement
as to the actors' pay scale. This was followed by an actual contract that
cited a substantially lower rate than was initially verbally agreed upon.
Couple that with a totally unrealistic deadline that was dictated by the
movie studio funding the whole thing and a movie editor that became caught
up in a swirling endless loop of agonizing whether there should be one empty
frame or two following a scene. Should the movie be presented in "Active"
acting or "Passive" acting? It's a terribly confusing and perplexing issue.
Then there is the whole "Camera Wars" angle. Panavision is the most popular,
but these guys tell me that Sony makes a really cool little 8mm thing
nowadays...
