> No one will read either a four- or a six-page resume. The resume
<<How do you know and how can you speak for everyone who will ever read
a resume?>>
I agree with John... I have over 20 years experience and even though I
only go over the last 10 years I have a tendency to do a lot in each
job... so my "long" resume, listing only the last 10 years, is 3 pages.
Listing the entire 20 years would definitely takes 6 pages. I found
that recruiters often want my long resume rather than my short,
summarized one, so they can use the diversity of my experience to
advantage. When looking it has been my intention to shorten and
summarize my resume to target specific positions. However, I haven't
been out of work for 10 years (that is, I've gone directly from one
contract to the next with no break) so I haven't usually had time to
extensively work on many variations of my resume. The "long" resume has
been successful in keeping me employed... both the 6-pager and the
shorter "last ten years" version.
Go figure!
Not all managers are reading the resume books, I guess.
