You could gain a little perceived length in these contracts by specifying
the beginning and end as months rather than actual dates. "August 2004 -
September 2004" gives the impression of two months duration whereas "August
16th - September 17th" is obviously five weeks. If you're very lucky, a
five- or six-week contract might span three calendar months.
You might consider this as being economical with the truth (which goes
against the insticts of a technical author!), but I'd say it's a reasonable
way to gain a marginal advantage over some, to me, unfounded prejudices that
the potential employers are exhibiting.
