Yes, you need both liability insurance and errors and omissions. Contact a
good insurance provider. Be prepared for a really stiff bill.
Your contract definitely should have a clause placing the responsibility for
the product on the client, and responsibility for the technical accuracy on
the client. You have limited control on the accuracy of the technical
details, especially if you write in an environment where the product is
evolving. The details can change faster than you can catch up, or even after
your deliverable is published (I've seen it happen). Your contract should
only permit you to accept responsibility over things you can control.
Everything else resides with the client. Contact a good business lawyer.
This is simple contract work, and shouldn't cost as much as the insurance.
