I've heard "SQL" pronounced both ways. I don't think
anyone one would look at you sideways for pronouncing
it one way over the other.

OTOH, I know nothing of "squirrel," especially since
in the US, it's "skwurrull" and (I've been told) it's
"skweerull" in the UK.

I did take phonetics in college but that's a long time
gone, so please forgive any mis-phoneticisms. =)
