Subject:Word comments are being hidden From:keilanhoo -at- yahoo -dot- com To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com> Date:Mon, 27 Sep 2004 22:32:05 -0600
I'm trying to edit a Word document for someone else, so I have change
tracking turned on. There are places in the document where I cannot insert
a comment balloon. If I select Insert > Comment, the balloon does not
appear on the page. I can insert a comment that shows on the Review pane,
but the only thing that appears on the page is a red bracket mark that
shows the comment location.
This only happens within tables. Inside the same table cell, there will be
lines in which I cannot insert a visible comment balloon, and lines where
I can. Crossing a page break seems to change whatever it is that causes
this condition. If line #7 in a table cell is above a page break and line
#8 in the same cell is below a page break, I cannot have a visible comment
balloon on line #7, but I can on line #8.
If I force a page break inside the table, the comments that previously
were hidden now pop out in visible comment balloons. But if I then rejoin
the table, the previously hidden comments go back to being hidden.
This is causing me some problems because the people I am doing this for
are even less expert in Word than I, and they sometimes forget to use the
toolbar buttons to find and check comments. Three times I have had to stop
worki to answer their phone calls and calm them down because they don't
see the comment balloons and they think I haven't done the work needed.
This is driving me nuts. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this
problem?
