See www.lizardtech.com for "Document Express" and its format, DjVu. It
appears to be extremely interesting for intranets, dealer info, and
the like...because the file sizes are so much smaller than Acrobat
files, and apparently you don't have to worry about installed font
problems.

I would be interested to hear any real-world experience with this technology...

scanned documents especially, but also can be used for electronic file
output in place of Acrobat.
