I think it is dangerous for an interviewer to ask such a question or to
tell you he is gay. If you are not hired, you could claim that the reason
you were not hired is because you are not gay. 

It would be like someone asking me if I am a Mormon. I do live in Utah.

Some questions should never be asked during an interview. Especially
these days.
