TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
TechComm Dood, responding in another thread, observed: <<As for PDFs,
why not create a watched folder on the network and just have people
print to file in that folder? Then there's no need for them to fiddle
with Acrobat.>>
Speaking of which, if you're working in a Frame environment and need to
automate PDF production, perhaps in the context of single-sourcing,
have a look at a product called "Buildfire" (http://convivio.com/). I
don't know much about it, and have no firsthand experience with the
product, but I've talked to the company president, and from what he's
said, it sounds very cool. The local buzz (in Montreal-area discussion
groups) is that it's a powerful and useful tool, with developers who
are quite responsive to suggestions.
