Calling SVG groups to hide/unhide conditional parts of illustrations

Dear listmembers,
In our manuals we have product overview images that shows both the main
camera and all different accessories that the customer can order. Since
different accessories can be ordered for different cameras, there are
alot of almost indentical images, each one of them lacking an accessory
or two.
If one creates en EPS images in Illustrator of a master overview image -
containing all accessories - and puts each accessory on a different
layer in the EPS image, then saves the EPS image as SVG, each layer
becomes a <g> group with a specific name.
Has anyone tried calling these groups when resolving the other
conditionalities in a master manual, then change the stroke and fill for
the appropriate groups to hide/unhide them and use the resulting SVG
image?
Thought this would be a good idea to reach 100 % identity between images
and e.g. packing lists etc.
Ideas, comments?
Best regards,
Mats Broberg
