Hi Wade
This kind of thing, once you get into it, can be complex - and require a
database to store your details. I built a tool last year for a client,
which required a database, but for reasons of beaurocracy couldn't do the
database within the timeframe (immediate), so was built using excel for the
data storage.
The client required, most of the time, to submit a collection of one page
resume for each team member with a photo in an appendix of their
proposal/RFP response. Other proposals, require only a brief summary of
each team member.
I developed as an interim solution using excel spreadsheets to store the
CV/Resume data (one per person). The spreadsheet comprised of two
worksheets. The first held more or less static data, such as languages,
qualifications, a short profile and a long profile, areas of specialisation
etc. The second worksheet held a summary of their project/career
highlights, categorised by area of industry, client name and skill.
When the document manager wanted to generate the CV Word document for the
proposal, they could select the names they required CVs for from a list, a
short or long profile, and then choose to extract all highlights, or just
those for a particular client/area of industry/ or using a particular
skill. A resume for each name would be created in Word, formatted, with
their photo - if present. (Gotta tell you though, the photos were
problematic, as Word does not allow easy proportional resizing through VBA,
unless all the photo have the same starting size).
But all in all it worked pretty well. The most problematic part was
getting everyone to keep their spreadhseets up to date. I am happy to
develop a tool along these lines which suits a wider range of users if
there is enough interest; if interested please contact me off list and we
can nail down some requirements.
regards
Suzy

Hi all-
I need to create a bunch of resumes that will be submitted with
proposals. But I want to avoid multiple copies of a resume, so I want
to use conditional text. We submit proposals to different industries
and some of the resumes crossover at the Job Function level.
Does anyone use conditional text in MS Word? If so, how do you do it?
Are there any good "plugins"
Thanks,
Wade
