Well, it looks like the reason things weren't being sorted may have been
a few typos in the text I was using as a sort key. The conversion from
table to text, back to table didn't work so well, because it got messed
up by several multi-line cell entries.
Oh yes, and the original miracle didn't happen after all.
Okay, that's enough out of me. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
