TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm researching options for adding Search capabilities to websites.
I've checked out some of the ready-to-go search features provided by
google and others, as well as options for "build it yourself" searching
(requiring scripting/programming expertise).
What I'd like to hear is how companies are really implementing Search
for their online content. Does your company provide extensive corporate
or technical information on its website? How do users search the
content? Is the information retrieved as search results or as
"customized" pages served up (portal?) based on the search? Any
information that you can share would be appreciated. I'll write up the
results for anyone who is interested.
Thank you in advance for sharing,
Kay
