Never having worked in MN, I'll yield to you on the cultural differences,
but it seems to me that there isn't anywhere that "I'm sorry, I must keep
commitments to my current clients" shouldn't be enough. But my guess
is that the acct rep probably couldn't care less about how seriously you
take your client commitments, and was probably figuring that if you were
desperate enough to kiss her a** by rearranging your schedule for her
at the last minute it would be an indication that she'd be able to lowball
you on the rate. Recruiters get their commissions for finding people; acct
reps get theirs for maximizing the firm's markup or lowering the client's
costs on those people.
