I had to try doing this to find out if it works because we use password protection for our PDF files. I got the following message when I tried to redistill the resulting file:
This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.
I had to completely remove document security (just removing the password wasn't enough) before I could print to a postscript file that could be distilled. This was true for both 40-bit and 128-bit encryption modes. I'm using Acrobat 5.0.5, so I can't speak to how 6.0 would handle the issue.
