TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
My experiences are that professionals need at least one of three
things, and if they don't get it, they are not satisfied.
1) Money. And, in my experience, changing employers is the only way to
get a good raise.
2) Respect/Responsibility/Authority Sometimes you can do nothing to
earn any of this, even though you deserve it.
3) Stability/Secuity. Including job security, security for your family
through benefits, and security for your career through professional
development.
Having said that, the original poster seems not to provide sufficient
information to make a solid case for staying or leaving, except money.
Based on money, I'd say move, but I don't know the other factors,
including why the original poster was looking for a new job and, to
what degree the new position would meet that need.
