I've been contracting for almost 10 years. A lot of people just don't
like you because you get the prime project, better pay and accolades. With
lots of flattery (real, not faked) and treats (I have jars of biscotti,
beef jerky, etc... on my desk) you can get them to budge a little, but
don't expect a Disney movie ending.
I go to the occasional happy hour and lunch. I skip the holiday
festivities. But having people know and like you will get you recommended
for other projects and an excuse to call/stay in touch for future work.
Good luck!

I'm a friendly (but not annoyingly so) person, but
I've noticed that one of the writers here just doesn't
give us contractors the time of day. I don't have
this issue with any of my SME's-just this one writer.
(so far, I have gotten positive feedback on my
writing)
