I believe that geekism is probably worth an additional 5% or so of salary in my current company. I'll take it.
Only 5%? There's places where you can't even get a job without at least being able to do a good imitation.
And, of course, the amount of time you save by not having to struggle for respect from developers must be worth something, too.
