In FM 7.x (can't remember if it's also supported in FM 6.x), File > Import > File (select Excel file, import by reference) imports cells that have content, not the whole spreadsheet. Some limitations are 256 rows x 256 columns, and only the first sheet in a workbook.

This creates a text inset that you can update in FM if the Excel source is revised.

If you need to import a subset of a sheet, create a new Excel sheet and copy the subset range to the new sheet, keeping it linked to the original sheet. Import the subset sheet to FM. When the original source sheet changes, update the subset sheet, then update the inset in FM.

In FM online help, look up Excel, import, text inset.

Many more FM users will see your FM questions if you post to the Adobe FrameMaker User-to-User forum, and also subscribe to the frameusers.com mailing list. Both have searchable archives, however the FrameUsers' archives often time out.

Hi,
In FrameMaker, how do you import an Excel spreadsheet with certain ROW and
COLUMNS defined? (For example, I don't want to import all the blank rows,
just a set of rows/columns.)

What settings do you have to do in Excel first before attempting import?
Do you have to first set the rows/columns to be the print area in the
Excel spreadsheet? In FM, you then use Import -> Object -> Select from
File, right?
