David Downing wondered: <<How do I turn the Track Changes feature in
Word totally OFF and make it STAY totally OFF????>>
At the bottom of the document window, in the status line, you'll see a
little button labeled "TRK". Click this to enable track changes, or to
disable the feature if it's currently enabled. Alternatively, disable
the feature via the menus (Tools-->Track Changes-->Highlight
changes-->Track changes while editing).
You can't make this change permanent, but so long as you don't
re-enable the feature, it should stay off forevermore. If you've been
hitting the Control-Shift-E keyboard shortcut by mistake (e.g., instead
of Control-E to center text), that toggles between tracking and not
tracking changes. Stop doing that! <g>
If someone has sent you a document that has been "protected for
revision tracking" (Tools-->Protect document-->Protect document for
tracked changes), you'll have to ask them to disable the track changes
feature if the document is password protected*. If not, simply disable
this selection yourself.
* I believe that with some earlier versions of Word, you could simply
do a "save as" and that would eliminate the password. Worth a try?
