Chad LaCroix wondered: <<In MS Word, is there a way to do a search and
replace for a "return"?>>
Yes, but it's well hidden. In the standard search and replace dialog,
click the "More" button (which I believe has become a cryptic
downward-pointing arrow in some recent versions of the software) to
reveal more options. Position the cursor in the find or replace field,
depending which you're trying to do. Click the button labeled "Special"
to display a range of special characters. (When you select one of
these, Word will add a code, such as ^p for carriage returns, in the
field. If you remember these codes, you won't have to go through the
hassle of expanding the dialog, opening the menu of special characters,
etc.)
<<I am trying to format text that was extracted from a PDF into Word.
The text comes into Word with returns about half way through each
sentence and I am trying to find a way to fix that without having to go
in and do it manually. Anyone have a suggestion as to a better way of
doing this?>>
Yup. Figure out what the recurring patterns are that you're trying to
fix, then create a macro that does all the necessary corrections. It's
easy to record one. Better still, look for a utility (Google!) that
does the conversion elegantly for you.
