TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
What are your client's alternatives? Unless you quoted high, he won't get
a better deal elsewhere, so unless the book he's writing is a vanity piece
that he's cooled on now that he knows what it'll cost, he should be
willing to pay for quality. I wouldn't belabor the point that he can't use
the chapter you've done (after all, what good is it to him?), just let him
simmer a while and consider his choices. If he's serious about his book
and liked your work, he'll be back.
Good luck,
Chris
