TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm working on improving the usability of interfaces in our main
applications. To that end, I want to change all "Click HERE for more
information." links to something more like "Click SYSTEM PROFILES TAB
for more information." We're using caps because this text is small. My
question is, should I include the word "HELP" as in "Click SYSTEM
PROFILES TAB HELP for more information." or does the word "help" scare
people away? The links is to a topic that describes the fields on the
interface.
Another possibility involves adding an additional link(s) to relevant
procedure(s):
"Click SYSTEM PROFILES TAB for interface information or click CREATING A
PROFILE for a step-by-step guide."
Thoughts?
Thanks.
