Your post is very subjective and doesn't tell us much.
- What is diligent (do you make finding a job a full time job or just
an hour or two a day)?
- How do you send the resume? An email and wait and see or do you
persue them aferwards?
- What are the ridiculously low rates? You want $70 and they're only
offering $40?
- You also don't say where you are. I'd imagine that Wisconsin or
Kansas doesn't offer the same opportunities as NY or SF.
As to the state of the market? I get 3-7 calls a week from
recruiters. Are you on all the job boards (Dice, Monster, Career.com, etc?)
