If Word 2003 is unable to open a file, try the Open and Repair function.
Word 2003 catches subtle corruptions that are tolerated (i.e. unnoticed)
by Word 2000. The documents in question might open flawlessly in Word
2000 without ever crashing.
Good Luck,
Dan Goldstein
