Martin,

You might have a bit of fun with it--ask the colleagues that are griping
about your office if they would want the surgeon performing a bypass on
their aged parent to have to operate in a distracting environment where
it is difficult to concentrate. When they answer, "of course not," you
can tell them, "Then you must also agree that the guy who writes the
bypass surgery manual should work in a distraction-free environment..."

;-)

If you're not comfortable doing that, then I would suggest just close
your door and ignore them the best you can. People are always going to
find something to complain about, and when they complain about you it
probably means you're doing something right.
