Sure there are ways.

1. Make the desktop shortcut. Instead of clicking it to open, right-click and `Open with ...` [something other than FF].

2. Use the "IE View" Mozilla/Firefox extension. This lets you open particular links in IE (right-click context menu) and to set a list of "Always open in IE" URLs.

3. Use a batch command. Create a new text file. In it, add the single line:

"c:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/IEXPLORE.EXE"
http://example.com/

This is probably the path to IE on your system; if not, modify it. The path and executable should be in double quotes (because there are spaces in the path), followed by a single space, followed by the intranet URL.

You might name the batch command intranet.bat, and perhaps leave it on your desktop. Click it, IE starts, and loads the page.

If you want to assign a different icon to this desktop item, save the batch command somewhere else, make a desktop shortcut to the batch command, and change the shortcut's icon using right-click -> Properties.
