Would anyone share some onmouseover tricks that enable the active area of a page to remain active while a JavaScript or other web page layer control spawns a sub-layer that contains both text and hotlinks (not the sausages!)?

Not clear what you're after. Can you describe the behavior you want in lay terms? You may be over-thinking. I do that, too.
