Outsourcing is only inevitable when it's advantageous
to a corporation--which usually means it helps someone
meet their numbers. Now, that advantage may be a
matter of perception and misunderstanding of long term
costs.
Sometimes "outsourcing," like "downsizing," has
everything to do with cutting costs and "making
numbers" than a team's technical abilities. Seemingly
invaluable, super-talented teams with years of
experience, training and the whole 9 yards have been
replaced with recent graduates, consultants or
both--none with the insiders' experience or knowledge
that was shown the door.
Outsourcing to other countries has more to do with
short-term gain in those numbers, being able to pay
much, much lower salaries and not have to contend with
labor issues--in spite of the they-work-harder and
we-don't-have-the-expertise-in-the-(fill in the
location) rhetoric.
