Kathy, et al,
I was not trying express an attitude that would offend any one.
I have been doing a lot of 'tech writing' over the past 34 years.
I could provide a list of all the documentation I was either responsible
for, or contributed to.
I value the members of this list for their input and knowledge.
Those that had the opportunity to have 'formal' education are to be
commended.
Those who have had to 'bootstrap' their way, are also to be commended.
Over time, we have all earned 'our stripes'.
One of the challenges that we all face is that because of our distinct,
variable, and valuable experiences, we cannot be put in a 'niche' that can be
readily adapted to a company that says -- dot the i's and cross the t's before I
will hire you -- or bring you in for an interview.
Or even, we're looking for a junior person.
With the experience that I see among the members of the list, a lot of
companies only want to pay for 1/4 of what we (editorially) can do. What aren't
they buying?
