Maybe I'm naive, but I read the note, I did not interpret it to mean
sharing salary info online, or giving some geographical locations more
importance than others. I routinely try to include my location with my
name, along with the fact that I was telecommuting (when I was). My
location (Ontario Canada) and the fact that I was telecommuting should
be taken into consideration when reading my posts (IMO). That lets you
know where I'm coming from (kind of).
As Lou said, it's a community. We are a diverse group of people with a
common thread - technical writing. Having an idea of where someone is
located helps us to understand our community; with its diversity and
challenges, geographically and culturally.
