In college I was called "dictionary b*tch." Which suited me just fine. I also read voraciously, and can spell on a dime. I don't need to write it down or think, it just pours out and not just English. A friend and I in college would go out to eat and spell our orders to the wait person and continue our conversation by spelling. We were such jerks. We upsets a lot of wait staff. I do it to my children all the time. I spell M-A-N-N-E-R-S when they are acting poorly in public. The two eldest are used to me switching language mid-sentence. Yiddish when I'm angry, French in conversation and a spattering of Spanish and German when an English word will not suffice. My five year old has a decent Spanish vocab., and when I speak Yiddish he tells me to stop saying words in Spanish that he can't understand, and I say, of course, "Sweetie, that's Yiddish, not Spanish!"

I can spell better orally than using the keyboard, so I continue to use the spell checkers.

The weird thing I've noticed is that I actually spell
better when I just write out the word, if I think
about it to hard I start second guessing myself about
if I've spelled the word correctly. But if I just
write without consciously (see I stopped to think...
!!!) thinking about it I can spell pretty much
anything, even words I don't know.
