SURVEY: Content Creation and Publishing Workflow Survey
Organizations of all sizes struggle with content creation and
publishing workflow issues. These problems are varied, time-consuming,
and waste finite resources. Many can negatively impact the ability to
meet business goals, be cause for regulatory and legal headaches, and
frustrate employees.
To help better understand and quantify the major content creation and
publishing workflow problems affecting technical communicators, and to
learn which software tools are being used to help reduce workflow
obstacles, I?ve created a short survey. Participants who complete the
survey will be able to view the results online when the survey closes.
To participate in the survey (it should take about five minutes), visit:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=966571139305
The survey will close Friday, June 24, 2005 at 5pm. Results will be
available to participants Monday, June 27, 2005. Just complete the
survey and provide an email contact address. I?ll do the rest.
Please feel free to share this invitation with others who might also
benefit from the knowledge obtained.

TRAINING: Writing for Translation Audio Conference
11:30 ET on June 21, 2005
http://www.fxtrans.com/resources/ac/future/ac20050621.htm
Why should you learn how to use Controlled English? Increasingly,
documentation must be designed for two distinct but related types of
audiences?-those reading the text in translation, and those for whom
English is a second language.
While many businesses still have their documentation translated, English
is quickly becoming the standard of our global village. But English is a
complex language to read, write, and understand. Using Controlled English
makes documents easier for non-native English speakers to understand, and
the more consistent, less ambiguous language also makes for less expensive
translations.
It is critical that technical documentation and training manuals clearly
convey meaning in fields with complex products and liability issues.
This audio conference explains how 1% of the English language is
sufficient to communicate with customers in 181 countries. It will also
cover the steps to implement Controlled English and its pitfalls and
benefits for the
translation of technical documentation.
Attend this audio conference to learn:
* The basics of Controlled English
* How the "1% solution" impacts translations
* How a company and its customers can benefit from using Controlled
English
* Real-world case studies on the use of Controlled English

Mark your calendars for the FrameMaker 2005 Chautauqua!
Adobe Systems Inc. is well represented as Karl Matthews and Michael Hu
present on Adobe FrameMaker, an award winning, enterprise-class authoring

In addition to great, real-world presentations, this conference provides
attendees with the chance to meet and mingle with some of the best and
brightest FrameMaker luminaries. Networking opportunities and presenter
"Q&A" during break times are two of the benefits of attending. Door
prizes add to the fun, with opportunities to win a large computer monitor,
Apple iPods, technology books, and other prizes.
"FrameMaker is used by a variety of companies, for many different types of
documents. This conference is an opportunity to hear from real users how
they have implemented complex systems, overcome bumps along the way, and
made very involved processes work." said Kay Ethier (Bright Path
Solutions). Presentations use FrameMaker and Structured
FrameMaker/FrameMaker+SGML. Several FrameMaker versions are represented in
the presentations.
The conference will be held November 7-9, 2005 at the McKimmon Conference
