I would recommend that you review the MS Word "HELP" for the "RD" field to
see if it will help answer your question(S)
I would recommend a 'large document' in a single binder, with 'tabs' for
each 'application' sub-document..
Each of the 'applications' would be its own 'sub-document'.
Each of your separate sub-documents is a separate file. (RD-Reference
Document)
You need to create a separate Word document that contained the "RD"
references in it. (Follow the recommendations in the Help RD information.
Also include the other information that you find referenced in the RD Help.
Use the "RD" (Reference Document) field for your different
'sections/chapters'.
Each of the 'Separate sub-documents' would have its 'numbering scheme'
(Sections, Chapters, Sub-paragraphs) numbered using outline mode.
I am sure you know how to set up outline numbering.
