One such instance is Apache Forrest (http://forrest.apache.org/). It's a free Web-publishing tool. The default output is slick; the Forrest Web site was made using it. You can choose from a number of skins, set a variety of default options, customize an existing skin, or create your own. The community is also very helpful. Most importantly, it's very easy to get started with (customizing will take a little longer).

As an aside, it's possible to bring simplified docbook into Apache Forrest, though I don't know how well Forrest handles this. Never tried.
