Problem solved in Serna!

Apparently, a right click that invokes the popup menu also jumps the
cursor one element ahead in the main document. The options from the
popup menu therefore reflect options for the new cursor location
instead.  I got the results intended by using the main menu instead of
the popup. I'd call that a bug but, at least, it's getting me further
than anything else I've tried. XMetaL was a total waste of time.

Thanks for your input Tim. Since I can't find a solution in Authentic, I
will take your recommendation on Serna, (if there are no further
suggestions). I was pinning my hope on Authentic; it's freeware which
meant no lobbying for cash.

I would still be great to hear any success stories about DITA in
FrameMaker. (I am unable to view the yahoo group for framemaker-dita at
the moment, so I won't be able to check any references to it just yet.)

Take the asterisk as my cursor. I can't get Serna/Authentic to list the
next logical sets of elements (prereq, steps, postreq, etc) for taskbody
at that point. I see options to insert another task, various cosmetic
tags, and even concepts/reference tags. 


I'm sure I'm doing something wrong (I'm getting the same challenge from
both apps) but what is it?

Going through a similar exercise.  Have a look at the Serna editor from
Syntext:

http://www.syntext.com

It's highly configurable, WYSIWYG and supports DITA.  Also it's more
user-friendly out-of-the-box than the Altova product.
