Ahh. It's good to know the troops are out there. Thanks!
Not unexpectedly, the most popular page on my site is the one that is within
usually the first ten hits in a Google search for:
xp modem volume
----or-----
xp modem sound
----------
After I bought my new computer, I could not figure out how to turn off the
modem sound completely; eventually I did, though, and thought others might
benefit, too, so I wrote two procedures that my stats tell me people are
using. Such a simple thing, but one has to actually do it in two places to
be sure it's done, and "off" doesn't mean "off" at all.
