There was some discussion about the usefulness of an online help index
at this past WritersUA conference, specifically when it was announced
that Longhorn Help may not contain an index, favoring
context-sensitive search and dynamic content display capability. There
was much heated debate over this, but no sources were cited to uphold
or counter this assertion about user behavior. The best course of
action is, of course, to study your users' habits and make informed
decisions from your findings.
