Subject:pop-up Help vs. embedded Help From:"Hannah Gilberg" <hgilberg -at- navis -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com> Date:Thu, 8 Sep 2005 14:02:38 -0700
My team is working on a hosted app for users with fairly low computer
literacy, and possibly not much English literacy, either, so images are
going to be important.
We batted around whether or not we should have page-sensitive help
topics appear as a separate pane to the right of the application (as w/
MS Project) or if it should launch as a pop-up with the full
TOC/Index/Search frame.
I thought we should go with pop-up help, because making the help
embedded would require:
1) Eliminating graphics of any reasonable size.
2) Forcing the user to click one or more times to see the Help tree.
Do people have strong opinions about opting for one or the other? What
would folks suggest for this particular audience?
