But after ten minutes of looking around I couldn't find all of the files needed for installation so I gave up. Too much work when the home edition of XML Spy is free, does everything I currently need, and the install is a single file.

Several people have already pointed out that Bluefish is for Linux only.
I mentioned the first example that came to my head. But I believe that
there are similar HTML code editors for Windows.

As for installation of software, nothing beats apt-get on Debian, or yum
or apt4rpm on versions of Linux that use Red Hat packages. With all
these installers, you can not only download from the web, but also get
all the upgrades you need to install your chosen package. Moreover, when
the package is installed, it's ready for use at once, without any need
to reboot. With apt-get, you can even upgrade a program while you're
working in it. In fact, Windows has a long ways to go before it can
install new programs as easily as these programs.

"When a person has a poor ear for music he will flat and sharp
right along without knowing it. He keeps near the tune, but is
not the tune. When a person has a poor ear for words, the result
is a literary flatting and sharping; you perceive what he is intending
to say, but you also perceive that he does not say it.'
