As an African.
The cost of software licenses is so prohibitive that the price of computers
and computer training is often beyond what most people can afford. Without
the means to afford a computer so that people can access information and
empower themselves and the people around them, people are at a disadvantage.
Another project I am involved in develops free and open source computer
courseware that is backed by an internationally recognized certification.
Thanks to this, training centers all over Africa are being mobilized to
provide computer training to many at a price that is affordable.
All this was made possible because of FOSS. Tonight, a child goes to bed under
the African Sky and looks up and the stars with a new understanding and
awareness that the future does hold possabilities.
If I get not a cent back, this knowledge would make all my contributions
worthwhile.
